Katz & Dogz had a canine massage class at South End Yoga on Saturday, April 28th. Canine massage techniques were demonstrated and then each of the owner/canine pairs had a chance to practice and receive individual attention to tailor the techniques to the needs of each dog. Thanks to "Chloe", "Sheep", "Sarah" and "Timit" for being such wonderfully behaved dogs!

Pet Massage Instruction

Katz & Dogz instructional sessions are a great way for owners to learn some basic massage techniques to empower themselves in keeping their pets healthier, relaxed, and limber. These hour-long sessions offer one-on-one instruction in small animal massage techniques in the comfort and convenience of one’s own home.

The initial session includes instruction in massage techniques, indications and contraindications of small animal massage, and other helpful tips that one can use with your pet. Follow up instructional sessions are also available for those who wish to build upon their previous learning and to receive feedback and guidance on fine-tuning and building more confidence in and further developing their massage skills. While applicable at any age, many have found these instructional sessions extremely helpful for providing the confidence and skills to providing regular massage at home for their older dogs, who often develop issues with mobility and other conditions of advancing age.

A Katz & Dogz massage session augmented with massage given at home by the owner is a powerful combination to help keep your pet healthier. It also encourages you to take more responsibility in the care and well being of your pet. While certainly not a substitute for appropriate veterinary care, owners tell me that providing daily or regular massage with their pets makes a big difference for them as well as their pets. They feel much less helpless and much more empowered by being able to offer something constructive when confronted with health issues their pets may face. Owners also report that it just plain feels good to bond with them in this way.
